Lost Money!

Check the sides of your sofa, they could hold a fortune…well a bit of spare cash anyway! This article in today’s Guardian points out that the people of Britain have an estimated £1 billion lying around! Hmmmm, I’ve checked, and we don’t have anything other than the odd lucky penny. Oh well.

Book Crossing

My friend Sarah was lucky enough to find a Book Crossing book in the studio at Abbey Road, where she is working on the film festival. She was delighted to find a copy of ‘Chocky’-remember the TV series?! Have a look at the Book Crossing website; it’s a lovely idea!

Lucky Bilbao

Edward and I have just returned from a great weekend in Bilbao. We met so many friendly and interesting people while we were there, and were lucky enough to enjoy lots of delicious food and drink, and take in the amazing Guggenheim. Here are some photos I took whilst there, and a scanned image of a very special lucky coin. This coin was left with a note at our hotel, by two lovely women we met: Jutte and Eva. We had coffee with them and chatted about luck, and they told us about special lucky things that people do in Germany, and about how there are two different types of people in the world: people who look up and people who look down! We bumped into them again later, and they had found two lucky coins-I didn’t find any over the course of three days! This one looks quite battered, like it carries some extra special luck…Jutte and Eva were planning on going to the Athletic Bilbao football match that evening, and I think their pennies might have bought Bilbao some sporting luck: they were losing 3-0, then the match completely turned around and they won 4-3!!

UPDATE! UPDATE!

It really is a lucky day! I was just walking home from my evening class, and I found a fiver! A whole five pound’s worth of luck; it’s going to be a good week!

Birthday Luck

It was our friend Steven’s birthday yesterday and we phoned up to wish him Happy Birthday. There we were, singing and playing my birthday tune-maker down the phone, and thinking ‘Steven sounds a bit funny, maybe he’s drunk’. So, Edward had this conversation for a while, then realised he wasn’t speaking to Steven at all. It turned out to be someone called Clive, who was also celebrating his birthday! So, Happy Birthday Clive!

Pennies in the papers

There are a couple of articles in today’s Guardian, saying that people don’t value pennies any more! It seems that we throw them away like rubbish. Read this article to see what you can do with your old pennies, and this one to see how people want to phase out our coppers.

Save your pennies!

NTL Broadband Awards Ceremony

M-m-mmmmmmm! Ooh, the beef at The Ivy is soooo tender! Yes, I’ve had a rather special afternoon, receiving my award from Foxy and meeting the other award winners. In addition to the delicious lunch, I was given a beautifully wrapped gift of a tiny digital camera, a cheque for £100 and an X-Box - Edward has rushed out to buy a game and extra control thingy! I could easily get used to the celeb lifestyle, but came back to earth with a bump as I had to catch the Tube home, no chauffeur for me. Oh, well.

Wright-Phillips gets lucky

I saw this little article in the Sports section of today’s Guardian, and was delighted that even top footballers are concerned about lucky mascots and rituals.

‘Shaun Wright-Phillips will remember this week for a long time, having made a goalscoring debut for England on Wednesday, but things could have been oh so different. When he joined the England squad after last weekend’s league fixtures, the winger packed two pairs of boots. But as the game approached he realised that he’d left his lucky pair at home. Distressed, he phoned Manchester City, and they couriered them straight to the north-east. The rest is history.’

I won a prize!

I won a competition in Time Out magazine-how lucky is that?! Two tickets to the Big Chill, a tent, two sleeping bags, two floor mats, a torch…oh, and a loo roll! Edward and I went last weekend and it was fantastic. The best bits were Mr Scruff (as always), Quantic Soul Orchestra (who did a cover of a Mr Scruff tune, lovely), Flipside, The Ukelele Orchestra of Great Britain and Senor Coconut. It was just so delicious to be in such a beautiful setting on one of the hottest weekends of the year, listening to great music. It was amazing how many people we bumped into as well…

We now have the camping bug, and are going away again this weekend!
